REFLECTIONS & REMINDERS

It’s hard to believe the holidays are upon us! As we reflect on this past year, a few things come to mind…

Thank you for helping us connect kids to nature! In 2013, 944 children experienced the arboretum through school field trips, nature clubs, leaf labs and nature play activities. If your children or grandchildren are not growing in their understanding of the natural world or spending enough time outdoors, ask their school to contact us for a spring field trip.

We added 141 new trees and shrubs to the collection this year. We now have over 2,100!

Need gift ideas? An arboretum membership is the perfect way to express thanks, love or friendship to somebody special. Then they can experience this beautiful, serene place for themselves. If interested, call Beth at 515.992.4211.

On your next visit, stop by the Vista Room. For a $20 donation, you receive a set of note-cards featuring trees and vistas of the arboretum. The Vista Room is the perfect space for a gathering any time of year for family, friends and co-workers. Call to reserve a date!

Looking ahead to 2014…

  • Drake musicians in the Vista Room
  • Annual Chamber Music Concert in the Pavilion
  • The String Thing:  Lively storytelling like you’ve never seen
  • Vanishing Acts traveling exhibit
  • Native plant art
  • And much more!

Have a safe and happy holiday season!
