OVERLOOK POND ACCESSIBLE PATHWAY
The FIRST Accessible Nature Trail at The Brenton Arboretum
For the past 20 years visitors have explored our landscapes and tree collections by strolling the grassy mown paths that crisscross the property. The hilly slopes and uneven surface of these paths make it difficult for guests with mobility issues. To ensure everyone has the opportunity to explore the wonders of nature, the Arboretum has set a goal to pave the first of several accessible trails at our institution.
This first trail will circle Overlook Pond. This trail will be a comfortable 1/4 mile loop around the picturesque pond that was originally built in the 1950s. The smooth concrete path will take visitors near the water’s edge to glimpse fish, lily pads, and waterfowl. It also winds through our collection of Shingle Oaks, past Dawn Redwood, and along the edge of a grove of Shagbark Hickories. Overlook Pond is at a highpoint on the property, which provides sweeping views of the Arboretum landscape and the gently rolling fields beyond.
