Back to Our Roots Series: Tree Planting And Care-CANCELED

May 14 @ 9:00 am 11:00 am

Join The Brenton Arboretum’s General Manager and Horticulturist Andy Schmitz for a 2 hour hands-on program about tree planting and care. This class will teach you how to properly plant a tree for the best chance at survival.

Did you know there is way more to planting a tree than “green side up”? We will look at root flares and discuss stem girdling roots and how these can be avoided and corrected at planting. We will discuss tree selection and what to look for when purchasing a tree, paying close attention to the roots. You will learn how to mulch a tree and watering requirements. Part of the class will be inside the class room then we will go outside for a hands on tree planting demonstration and looking at root structures. You only get one chance to correctly plant a tree, come to this class to learn how to set your tree up for a long life.

Dress for the weather and bring a pair of work gloves. All children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Class size is limited to 20 participants.
Pre-registration is required; registration fee includes a bare root tree to take home.
